Cat & Dog Consultations
PVBS provides a full range of behavioural services to help you and your pet.
♥ Consultations are held at your home or over the phone (only if distance is a problem)
♥ PVBS offers private consultations for cats and dogs with problems ranging from nuisance behaviours (training problems) through to anxiety and fear-related problems (mental health problems)
The main problems that we provide treatment for are:
♥ Separation Anxiety
♥ Noise and Thunderstorm Phobias
♥ House Soiling
♥ Destructive Behaviours
♥ Compulsive Disorders e.g. tail chasing, excessive grooming
♥ House Soiling
♥ Urine Spraying
The initial consultation lasts from 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the severity of the behaviour problem and how long it has been present. It takes this long for us to fully assess every aspect of your pet’s behaviour problem. Included in the initial consultation fee is a behavioural assessment of your pet, history taking, discussion of a potential diagnosis (or diagnoses), an explanation of why your pet is behaving they way they are, implementation of a behaviour modification plan, including environmental manipulation, where required. If your pet is receptive to training, we may work on some basic behaviour modification training, however, in the majority of cases the pet is too anxious to learn any new behaviours effectively during the initial consultation.
Following the consultation, a report is sent to you, your regular vet and the trainer that summarises everything discussed. Two-months free follow up via phone/email is provided and deemed to be a very important part of consultation process. Both of these are included in the initial consult fee.
Some pets may benefit from anti-anxiety medication alongside the behaviour modification plan, and this is discussed during the consultation, where appropriate. If your pet requires anti-anxiety medication you will be referred back to your regular vet for these to be prescribed.
Follow up consultations are recommended at 6-8 weeks into the treatment plan, in particular, if your pet has been prescribed anti-anxiety medication.
Prior to the initial consultation, you are required to complete the a behavioural questionnaire.
